Father Joseph Collins has served Kimisis tis Theotokou as their Priest since June of 2016. He is a convert from evangelical protestantism who has been welcomed, educated, and nourished by the Greek Orthodox Church in America and her various institutions. He recieved his graduate education from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Seminary in Brookline, MA and has served the Church in many capacities since earning his M.Div in 2013. He completed his education and has served the church with the continued, loving support of his wife Presvytera Melanie and his children Ty, Mikayla, and JD.
Father Joseph Collins is a guaduate of two Archdiocesan schools: Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, MA. He attended Hellenic College from 2007-2010 and received his B.A. with highest honors as a religious studies majors and classics minor. He then attended Holy Cross from 2010-2013 and received his M.Div. with high honors. While studying at these institutiosn he took particular interest in ancient Greek and Orthodox spirituality.
After graduating from seminary in 2013, Father Joseph began working at St. Basil's Academy in Garrison, New York where he worked in many capacities under the leadership of Father Costantine L. Sitaras. While continuing to serve St. Basil's Academy, Father Joseph was ordained to deaconate on March 25th 2015 at the Church of our Savior in Rye, New York by the hand of His Grace Bishop Andonios of Phasiane. Here he served as deacon to Father Elias G. Villis, where he received experience in parish leadership and liturgics. He served both St. Basil's Academy and the Church or our Savior until shortly after his ordination to the priesthood and parish assignment.
On May 15th 2016 Father Joseph Collins was ordained to the priesthood at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City by the hand of His Emminence Archbishop Demitrios, Geron of America. He was soon after assigned to Kimisis tis Theotokou in Poughkeepsie, New York where he serves to this day. On August 13th 2017 Father Joseph was given the office of Economos by Archbishop Demitrios--an honorary title giving him the authority to hear Holy Confession and historically an office giving a priest authority over the finances of a parish.
Father Joseph serves the parish with the loving support and help of his wife Presvytera Melanie Collins, and together they are the loving parents of three children: Ty, Michaela, and JD.
